About Mapping Bitcoin

Mapping Bitcoin is an open-source directory of the global Bitcoin ecosystem. We aggregate data from OpenStreetMap and community contributions to build the most comprehensive map of Bitcoin-accepting businesses, organizations, communities, and resources worldwide.

What we do

The platform tracks thousands of merchants across 150+ countries that accept Bitcoin and Lightning payments — from cafes and restaurants to hotels and coworking spaces. Every listing is sourced from open data, and businesses can verify their profile to confirm they accept Bitcoin.

Beyond the map, Mapping Bitcoin includes a wiki covering notable people, organizations, books, events, and communities in the Bitcoin space, along with a 200-term glossary for newcomers and experienced Bitcoiners alike. All content is available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Open data and community trust

Mapping Bitcoin is built on open data. Venue information comes from OpenStreetMap contributors around the world, and anyone can submit additions or corrections. Community members can leave reviews and ratings for businesses, and we integrate with the Nostr Web of Trust to provide transparent, spam-resistant reputation signals.
