ColombiaP2P

Colombian Bitcoin community focused on peer-to-peer trading, Lightning Network, Nostr, node operation, privacy, and building a circular economy around Bitcoin.

ColombiaP2P is a Colombian Bitcoin community centered in Bogota that champions peer-to-peer trading, privacy, and self-sovereign Bitcoin use. Operating primarily through Telegram, the community brings together Colombians who want to buy, sell, and use Bitcoin without relying on centralized exchanges or intermediaries.

Overview

ColombiaP2P focuses on the core principles that make Bitcoin powerful: peer-to-peer exchange, privacy, and individual sovereignty. The community educates members on running their own full nodes, using the Lightning Network for fast and low-cost payments, trading Bitcoin through P2P platforms, and communicating via the Nostr protocol. By emphasizing these tools, ColombiaP2P helps Colombians take full control of their financial lives.

Activities

The community runs educational sessions covering Bitcoin fundamentals, Lightning Network usage, P2P exchange platforms, Nostr protocol, and privacy best practices. Members learn to set up and operate full Bitcoin nodes, maximizing their privacy and contributing to network decentralization. ColombiaP2P actively fosters a circular economy where members transact directly with each other in Bitcoin, reducing dependence on the traditional banking system.

ColombiaP2P hosts "Sabados de Bitcoin" (Bitcoin Saturdays), regular Saturday meetups in Bogota where members gather to discuss Bitcoin topics, trade peer-to-peer, and onboard newcomers. The community also runs specialized workshops including "Autocustodia en Bitcoin" (Bitcoin self-custody) and "Como manejar tu privacidad con Bitcoin" (How to manage your privacy with Bitcoin).

In March 2025, ColombiaP2P launched its own Mostro P2P exchange node, making Colombia the second Latin American country -- after Cuba -- to host a Mostro node. Mostro is a non-custodial peer-to-peer Bitcoin exchange that runs on the Nostr protocol and the Lightning Network, enabling trustless trading with no KYC requirements.

Colombia's history of currency controls, inflation, and reliance on remittances makes P2P Bitcoin trading particularly relevant. The community provides practical guidance on using Bitcoin for cross-border payments and everyday commerce.

Significance

ColombiaP2P represents the privacy-conscious, sovereignty-focused wing of Latin American Bitcoin adoption. Rather than promoting Bitcoin merely as an investment, the community teaches Colombians to use it as a complete financial system -- from earning and saving to spending and sending -- all without intermediaries. Their emphasis on node operation and P2P trading sets a strong example for other communities in the region.
