Bitcoin NEA is an open network of Bitcoin enthusiasts spanning the four provinces of northeastern Argentina -- Chaco, Corrientes, Formosa, and Misiones. Founded around 2019, it is one of the longest-running regional Bitcoin communities in the country, promoting adoption as a tool for individual sovereignty and economic development in a historically underserved part of Argentina.
Overview
Headquartered in Resistencia, Chaco, Bitcoin NEA operates from Salta 720, which also serves as the Nodo NEA of ONG Bitcoin Argentina. The community was founded by Joel Nicolas Fernandez, who also serves on the board of ONG Bitcoin Argentina and co-founded BitCash, the first cryptocurrency exchange in the Chaco province. The network extends across the broader NEA (Nordeste Argentino) region, including a connected community called Crypto NEA based in Corrientes.
Activities
Bitcoin NEA organizes a range of educational and community events. Their flagship format is free weekly Zoom talks held every Thursday at 7 PM, open to anyone curious about Bitcoin. The community hosts in-person events including DescentralizAR (a regional decentralization conference held in 2025) and annual Bitcoin Pizza Day celebrations.
As a participant in Cruzada21, Bitcoin NEA receives infrastructure support from La Crypta and Veintiuno, including Bitcoin nodes and point-of-sale terminals to drive merchant adoption in the region.
