Escuelita Bitcoin

Bitcoin education project spanning Uruguay and Paraguay, teaching practical Bitcoin skills through accessible community workshops.

Escuelita Bitcoin (Little Bitcoin School) is a non-profit Bitcoin education project spanning Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay, founded by Ernesto Elias Aharonian -- a Uruguayan self-taught educator -- and run by a team of 3 entrepreneurs. The project teaches practical Bitcoin skills through accessible community workshops designed for people with no prior technical knowledge. The name reflects its philosophy: approachable, welcoming, and focused on teaching rather than preaching.

Overview

Based in Montevideo, Uruguay, Escuelita Bitcoin operates across multiple countries in the Southern Cone region. Ernesto Elias Aharonian, the project's driving force, has also taught Bitcoin Diploma courses in northeastern Argentina, specifically in Resistencia, Chaco -- home of the Bitcoin NEA community. The project's geographic reach extends to Uruguay's rural schools, Argentina (Mendoza, where 8 youth have been trained, as well as northern Argentina), and Paraguay, where Aharonian was a speaker at the Paraguay Blockchain Summit 2025. This cross-border reach makes Escuelita Bitcoin one of the most geographically distributed Bitcoin education initiatives in South America.

The project is part of the Cruzada21 network, connecting it with other Latin American Bitcoin communities including La Crypta and providing access to shared infrastructure and coordination resources. Escuelita Bitcoin is supported by Luxor Mining.

Activities

Escuelita Bitcoin runs hands-on workshops that guide participants through every step of Bitcoin adoption: setting up a wallet, receiving their first sats, making Lightning payments, understanding self-custody, and grasping the economic principles behind sound money. The curriculum is designed to be jargon-free and practical, ensuring that participants leave each session with real skills they can use immediately. The project has delivered 8 or more Bitcoin workshops in a single year.

Innovative Pedagogy

Escuelita Bitcoin uses a distinctive teaching approach tailored to children and young learners. Children manage orchards and make decisions by consensus. Each team works as a "node," with decisions recorded in the "timechain" through drawings -- making abstract Bitcoin concepts tangible for young minds. The "Fruits for sats" program (adapted from models in Brazil and Suriname) and mock store transactions provide practical, hands-on learning experiences that connect Bitcoin to real economic activity.

Workshops take place in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay, with Aharonian's Bitcoin Diploma courses extending the educational reach further. The program adapts to local contexts, addressing the specific economic challenges and opportunities relevant to each country.

Significance

Escuelita Bitcoin addresses one of the most persistent barriers to Bitcoin adoption: the knowledge gap. By meeting people where they are -- both geographically and in terms of understanding -- the project turns curious newcomers into confident Bitcoin users. Its cross-border model demonstrates that Bitcoin education does not need to be confined by national boundaries, and its connection to the Cruzada21 network amplifies its impact across the region.
